Endemic Birds of Sri Lanka

For the bird student, a visit to Sri Lanka as both a pleasant and rewarding experince. Here, within relatively short distances and ease acessibility, some 389 species (Philips, 1975) have been recorded. (now this number has been increased upto 492, Devaka Punchihewa)

Many of these birds, such as the Ruff, Philomachus pugnax, range widely acrossed Europe, Africa and Asia ; others frequent neighboring India and nearby Asian Countries. On the other hand, Sri Lanka features twenty one endemic species (now this figure has increased upto 34) found only on this island; If you journeyed to see these unique birds and were not disappointed.
